My Hometown
My hometown turned 50 on January 1st, 2000. Its next to an Air Force base, so lots of people have lived there over the years. The town fathers (and my mother) asked me to pen a song for the big anniversary celebration. A rushed recording job with my multi-talented producer, Chris Brenne, got the job done just in time. It was great fun to hear the reviews from my hometown...
Driving down the road, I get hit with a familiar feeling
I wonder just what it is that makes this place so appealing
Just another little town like a hundred I passed by before
But the way my heart skips a beat tells me this one's something more
I drive across the train tracks; memories start flooding back
Makes the trip worth every mile
Then the feeling sinks in this place is like a second skin
Wearing it's as easy as wearing a smile
This must be my hometown
My hometown
CHORUS:
It's not the home of presidents
Or famous-name residents
No big city happenings going down
There's just one thing that sets it apart
This town has my heart
Because it's my hometown
My hometown
There's the old five and dime been around since way back when
And just around the corner there's the creek you used to find me catching crawdads with my
best friend
Theyre sprucing up Main Street new lights are looking sweet
They brighten up the place even more
Were keeping pace, making plans, working hard, and joining hands
So we'll be ready for whatever's in store
For my hometown
My hometown
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE:
They tell me home is where the heart is
Well we've seen neighbors come and go ever since our town's birth
They may travel far away, but hearts always stay
So our neighborhood is growing all over the earth
They call it my hometown
My hometown
REPEAT CHORUS
My hometown (Fairborn, Ohio is)
My hometown (Fairborn, Ohio is)
My hometown (We're ready for tomorrow in)
My hometown (The future's looking bright for)
My hometown (So we celebrate tonight in)
My hometown
