are Celebrating!

We celebrate many milestones in life – birthdays, wedding anniversaries, graduations.  It’s in our nature to want to mark the most significant milestones with some sort of tribute, be it a party, a gift or some special memorial.  This June, I will celebrate my 25th year as a Cancer Survivor.  

Anyone who has been touched by cancer knows that reaching such a milestone is an extremely uncommon event.  I am profoundly aware of my good fortune in reaching this mark and know that many affected by cancer’s relentlessness will not be so fortunate.  My life could have been cruelly cut short were it not for the excellent care I received after I was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma the month following my 17^th birthday.  But my battle is not over – nor is it over for the millions of people affected by cancer each year. 

This is why I have decided to have a celebration we can all share by making it a part of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life^® on May 3^rd and 4^th in Damascus, Maryland.  My admittedly audacious goal is to raise $25,000 – that’s $1000 for each priceless year I’ve enjoyed since my diagnosis.

The major theme of each Relay for Life throughout the world is HOPE.  Hope for a future free from the scourge of cancer.  Hope for the families who have lost loved ones.  Hope for another year of life for those battling cancer.  My hope is that through my passionate and diligent quest to learn all I can about nutrition and fitness I can continue to optimize my health and the health of those I am blessed to counsel.
