Every once and a while, somebody says something nice about me. My favorite was probably when one of the nurses I worked with during my OB/Gyn residency said that I had a very balanced Yin and Yang. She was (still is, I suppose) a fairly militant gay and had a hard time with many of the residents. She knew that I was straight, but she saw that I was reasonably clued into my feminine side without compromising my masculinity.
I've had other, more formal acknowledgements of some of my accomplishments. A few of them are listed here. I think I'd rather have a more personal compliment that is offered from one decent human being to another, but it's nice to get the piece of paper every once and a while that confirms you're okay.
